Edward Griffen was not a brave man. He had little in the way of courage or strength in him. He was young, a mere sixteen years, a merchant's second son. He had been married to a woman, thankfully a childhood friend, as soon as he could. His father had no patience for another boy in the house. He had been expected to marry, move out, and reproduce. His father was much more concerned with his older brother, Theodore. The golden child.
Tall, rugged, handsome. Married to a lovely woman, with three children, including two boys. Theodore had a head for numbers and was a natural born merchant. It was a shame he had to deal with his younger brother cluttering up the house, especially after their father died.

So Theodore (such a smart fellow they all said) hatched himself a plan. He found a random group of crazy men and shipped Edward and his bride off with them. Brilliant.
Perhaps it wasn't as cold hearted as Edward made it out to be in his head, but it felt that way. Sure, the second son of a merchant didn't mean much, especially since their father didn't have much business, but still. Some pity please before a boot out the door.
So that's how Edward found himself here, hunched under a makeshift tent. In the rain.

It was not pleasant. Camping that is. The crazy men turned out to be not so much crazy, just slightly foolish. Leaving the city was a bold plan, and Edward wasn't sure what to make of it. He tried his best to stay out of anything though, to minimize his experience with the group. He kept Tamora close to his side, but she had to keep on and make friends with everyone. It was ridiculous.
She seemed to have formed some sort of bond with the Fred fellow, the lead not-terribly-crazy-man. Wonderful. He seemed to have taken a shine to her and Edward, and insisted on including Edward in all sorts of conversations. Edward was confused at why Fred wanted his opinion on where they should be going. He had no idea where they were. Why should he be helping them get even more lost.
He had actually said that at the last meeting, and the laughter was astounding. The words had just slipped out of his mouth and for a moment he feared they would get angry. Instead Fred just took a look at the map and began the round of laughter. The only one who didn't join in was Dane, but that seemed to be because he was the only one with a sense of where they were going.

Edward tried to stay away from Dane. Well, he tried to stay away from everyone, but Dane most of all, with Fred being a close second. Dane was a strange man, and kept insisting on taking first watch every night. Edward didn't mind, he loved his sleep. Before drifting off though, he would see Dane staring into the forest. The man was weird.
